AHS Orchestra update – 02.21.17

1. PRE-UIL
2. UIL
3. BRANSON TRIP FINAL PAYMENT
4. BRANSON TRIP MEETING

1. PRE-UIL: Pre-UIL for all UIL groups except Symphony is TOMORROW, Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Each group has a different call time, and scheduled performance time. Students were given information in class a number of weeks ago that shows both their group’s call time and performance time (also posted to Charms). Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend these performances to support the students as they present their “works in progress.”

Students are reminded to report to Gym B, in concert uniform, by their listed call time. Violin and viola students must get their instruments from the Orchestra Hall BEFORE 5:00p. Students should enter AHS through the front entrance. Please DO NOT knock on the Orchestra Hall outside door, as the room will be in use for sight-reading.

2. UIL: all UIL groups go to UIL, hosted at Bowie HS, next week. Students were given information showing their group’s day, times, and details for their UIL day (also posted to Charms). While we know that many parents will not be able to attend UIL due to work schedules, the performances are open to the public. Please be aware that you will be required to check-in through the Bowie front office, so please allow time to complete that process.

3. BRANSON FINAL TRIP PAYMENT: final payments for the Branson trip are due March 3, 2017. The balance due must be paid by this date. Please check Charms if you are not sure what is owed. If any arrangements are necessary for financial considerations, please contact Mr. Goins.

4. BRANSON TRIP MEETING: a reminder that the required meeting for our Branson trip is Tuesday, March 7, at 7:00p in the AHS Auditorium. All students going on the Branson trip must attend WITH a parent/guardian. The meeting should last about one hour, and will begin with a brief update from our booster club. Complete details regarding itinerary, expectations, and forms will be covered at this meeting.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and thank you for your continued support of the AHS Orchestra!

You may check Charms to see your current balance due (payments submitted within the last week are not yet reflected in Charms). The final trip payment is due March 3.

2. MOVIE PARTY: our Movie Party is this Friday, February 3!!! Movie starts at 5:00 pm, and students should arrange for pickup by 6:45 pm. Guys bring drinks, girls bring snack food, and the boosters are providing popcorn!

3. PASSOFF DEADLINE: a reminder that the deadline to complete passoffs for the 4th six weeks is next Tuesday, February 7, by 2:50 pm. Any passoffs not completed by that time will become zeros.

4. PRE-UIL & UIL INFORMATION: we have received the schedules for both Pre-UIL and UIL. Students are receiving a handout in class with detailed information regarding call times, etc. This information will also be posted to Charms. Please refer to this information for specific dates and times for each group.

5. ELIGIBILITY: the 4th six weeks determines eligibility for both UIL and the spring trip. Students must be passing all classes to participate in either event, so please make sure you are taking care of your grades! Pre-UIL is a curricular performance, so eligibility is not a factor.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and thank you for your continued support of the AHS Orchestra!

2. BOOSTER MEETING: we hope to see you at our next booster meeting on Tuesday, January 24, at 7:00 pm in the AHS Orchestra Hall!

3. ALL-REGION HOSTING: AHS is hosting All-Region Orchestra again this year, and we need lots of student help to make this event a great experience! Sign up sheets are available in the orchestra hall. This is a great service hour opportunity!!!

4. PASSOFFS & PRACTICE: our new cycle of passoffs has begun. Students are encouraged to complete their passoffs early. The deadline for the completion of all passoffs for the 4th six weeks is 2:50 pm on Tuesday, February 7.

Students should be practicing every day to help their group make the most progress possible. To help facilitate this, students are expected to take home instruments and binders every day, and this is being checked periodically.

Practice journal assignments are being given every class to help students organize their practice. The first practice journals for the 4th six weeks are due next week.

5. SYMPHONY CLINIC: all members of Symphony Orchestra have a clinic Monday, January 23, from 4-6 pm. Any conflicts must be discussed with Mr. Goins ASAP so that we can try to help you make arrangements to attend.
