1. PASSOFF DUE DATE
2. TRIP PAYMENT DUE
4. ALL-REGION RESULTS
1. PASSOFF DUE DATE: a reminder that all passoffs for the 2nd six weeks must be completed by 2:50p Friday (November 3). Starting this afternoon, we will be entering grades for PO 2.1 (and PO 2.2 for Chamber). Completed passoffs will be entered as a 100, and passoffs still needing to be completed will appear as a zero until they are successfully completed.
Students still needing to complete passoffs for the 2nd six weeks are encouraged to take advantage of Thursday’s Practice Club (3-4p), during which at least one director will be listening to passoffs.
2. TRIP PAYMENT DUE: the next New Orleans trip payment of $150 is due this week (November 2). Payments submitted Thursday or Friday will be considered on time. Please contact Mr. Goins if you have any questions.
3. PRACTICE: over the past few weeks, we have been exploring with students strategies for deliberate practice with a focus on awareness. Students have been learning ways to break things down for improvement, as well as ways to use tuners and metronomes to help them make progress. At home, parents should be hearing students isolating small sections, working slowly, using tuners, using lots of repetition, and hopefully even singing. We appreciate any help parents can provide encouraging students to use these practice skills 5-6 days each week.
Students are welcome to take advantage of our weekly Practice Club sessions, held every Monday and Thursday from 3-4p, to practice in the Orchestra Hall, where they can practice with fewer distractions and get help if needed.
4. ALL-REGION AUDITIONS: on Saturday, October 21, members of the AHS Orchestra participated in the TMEA Region 5 All-Region Orchestra auditions, competing against students from across Arlington and Fort Worth. Congratulations to Hannah L, Pilar C, Julia A, Kanchan P, Jacob M, and Tyler R for earning placement in the All-Region Orchestras! We wish Hannah L and Kanchan P luck as their recorded auditions for the TMEA All-State Orchestras are judged against other high school string players from across Texas!
Please let us know if you have any questions, and thank you for your continued support of the AHS Orchestra!!!
