Placements for the 2017-2018 AHS Orchestra are now posted! We were so impressed by everyone’s performances, and are excited about next year’s AHS Orchestra!!! A reminder that we have five ability-based ensembles at AHS, plus a class for true beginners and those double-blocking to learn a secondary instrument. Placements are based on the prepared placement evaluation, your demonstrated work throughout the year, and the need to create balanced ensembles. Every student in the AHS Orchestra is a valued member of the program, and your placement is designed to help you grow towards realizing your greatest potential as a highly skilled, creative, and independent musician.
The AHS counselors have these placements, and are working to get everyone scheduled in their correct class. If your schedule shows a different period than the one listed here, know that we will be working with the counselors before school starts to make sure everyone is in the correct classes, or that adjustments for schedule conflicts are made as needed. A reminder that Orchestra is a year-long course, and students are expected to be enrolled for both fall and spring semesters. If you are not included on the list, it likely means you did not show up as enrolled in orchestra. Please contact your counselor to correct this, and also let us know.
If you have questions about your placement, we will be happy to have calm, thoughtful discussions to help you better understand your placement, and/or to answer any questions you may have. To facilitate productive discussions, we ask that you wait to send any inquiries until Monday, June 12 or later, to allow you time to process emotions. We will not be responding to any questions about placements until after this time.
MEMBERS OF SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: please note that we will have a change of rehearsal schedule starting with the 2017-2018 school year. Rehearsals will now be on Mondays from 4-6 pm, as well as the last two B days of the week at 7 am. This change is to help the AHS Band facilitate their rehearsal needs, as well as to address the limitations of the 7 am rehearsal model. If you have earned placement in the AHS Symphony Orchestra, please consider these Monday rehearsal times a protected spot in your schedule for the entire school year. We will be happy to help you work with coaches, etc, to ensure that you can be in attendance.
Have a fantastic summer, and we’ll see you on August 19 at 1 pm for ORCHESTRA OLYMPICS!!!
