We will discuss all protocols, procedures, and events in addition to providing you copies of the Orchestra Handbook and Forms.

2. HONORS CREDIT APPLICATIONS DUE MON, AUG 29

10-12 grade students may choose to receive Honor Credit for Orchestra through completion of extra assignments, projects, etc. This has the potential to increase their GPA and move them higher in class rank. Students interested in receiving Honor Credit must submit the Honors Credit Application to Dr. Chapman on Monday, August 29 no later than 3:30 pm.

3. OFFICER MEETING – TUES, AUG 30

We will have an Orchestra Officer meeting on Tuesday, August 30 during lunch in the Orchestra Room.

4. REQUIRED ORCHESTRA MATERIALS

Every student, whether they own or rent an instrument, must have the following materials:

  • Shoulder Rest (for 4/4 size for violin OR 15-16 inch size viola)
  • Rosin
    • Sherman, D’Addario, Bernadel, Kaplan, Pirastro, Magic, or Hidersine brand recommended for VIOLIN, VIOLA, and CELLO
    • Nyman, Kolstein, Pops, or Carlsson brand recommended for BASS
  • Music Stand for home practice (foldable or not)
  • Stool of appropriate height for home practice (for BASS)

5. PRIVATE INSTRUMENT RENTAL UPGRADES

If you began a rental contract while your child was in Junior High or Elementary, many times the rental company will start you off with a beginner instrument that is sturdier and can withstand “treatment” by younger children.  As your child moves on to high school or progresses in high school, we highly recommend that you revisit your rental company for a step-up instrument (including a step-up bow and case) that will perform with a more mature sound and facilitate advanced skill development.  Size should be reconsidered as well, especially for viola, cello and bass players.  If you’d like help navigating this process, please reach out to Mrs. Mour at smour@aisd.net

6. ORCH BOOSTER CLUB LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS

The Orchestra Booster Club is looking for new members for general membership and to fill leadership positions for the 2022-2023 school year. The Booster club members work together to put on events for our orchestra students. Please contact Dr. Chapman at kchapman@aisd.net if you are interested in helping.

7. PROGRAM AD SALES BEGIN – DUE SEPT. 16

Parents wishing to purchase a Shout-Out for their student or advertise their business in our concert program may do so by submitting the Ad Sales Program form found on our Orchestra Website.  All money and forms must be turned in no later than September 16.  Each advertisement purchased also includes a complimentary listing on our orchestra website and weekly update, and will be featured in PowerPoint format before each major concert.  Please contact Mrs. Mour at smour@aisd.net if you are interested in purchasing an ad space.
