AHS ORCHESTRA UPDATE – 10.07.2022

1. FALL CONCERT – WED, OCT 12

Our first concert is Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00 pm at the beautiful AISD Center for Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA). All AHS concerts for the next two years will be held at the CVPA while AHS is being renovated. Students will report directly to the CVPA for the concert. 

Call times are below. Call time means: dressed, tuned, and warming up at the specified time.

2. UNIFORM CHECK/HEM

Everyone has been fitted for a uniform and should have taken them home. Please hem/dart/pin clothes as needed but please DO NOT remove/cut away any material. Here is a link for how-to hem. 3.  REGION AUDITIONS – OCT 15

Region Auditions are Saturday, October 15 at Seguin High School. Audition times will be announced shortly. 

4. LETTER JACKET FITTING – OCT 19

Letter Jacket fittings are on Wed, Oct 19 at 3:00 pm in the orchestra room 

To letter in Orchestra and have the opportunity to purchase a letter jacket you must fulfill one of the following requirements:

● Be a member of the Symphony Orchestra (Varsity)

● Be an Orchestra officer for two years

● Audition and make one of the Region Orchestras

Regardless of the method above, If you earn a position in the Region Full Orchestra, the booster club will purchase your

letter jacket.

5. FUNDRAISER ALLIANCE AIR SHOW – SAT, OCT 22

Alliance Air Show is one of our big fundraisers of the year. We run concessions for two booths at the Air Show at Alliance Airport in north Fort Worth. Please sign up here to volunteer for a shift. WE ARE IN NEED OF ADULTS, MOSTLY with some spots for students. Thank you for your help. 

Students on lesson scholarships or who wish to be considered frio trip/seniors scholarships must have a parent, guardian, family member or friend volunteer at all fundraisers. These fundraisers are where we earn money for all our scholarships. 

6. NEED WATER & CHIP DONATIONSWe go through a lot of water and chips for our various events. If you can donate a case/box, we would really appreciate it.  Sign up here and have your student bring it to the orchestra room when they come to school. Thank you!

1. FIRST BOOSTER CLUB MEETING – TUES, SEP 27

Our first Booster Club meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:00 pm in the Orchestra Room. This is such an important organization for our orchestra program. When everyone pitches in things go so much faster! Please park in the lot by the baseball fields and come in the back door. 

2. REQUIRED ORCHESTRA MATERIALS – NO MORE LOANERS

It is imperative that students have all their materials by Monday. We will no longer be issuing loaner materials. 

Every student, whether they own or rent an instrument, must have the following materials:

  • Shoulder Rest (for 4/4 size for violin OR 15-16 inch size viola)
  • Rosin 
    • Sherman, D’Addario, Bernadel, Kaplan, Pirastro, Magic, or Hidersine brand recommended for VIOLIN, VIOLA, and CELLO
    • Nyman, Kolstein, Pops, or Carlsson brand recommended for BASS
  • Music Stand for home practice (foldable or not)
  • Stool of appropriate height for home practice (for BASS)

3.  LAST CHANCE – PROGRAM AD SALES 

We have a few mParents wishing to purchase a Shout-Out for their student or advertise their business in our concert program may do so by submitting the Ad Sales Program form found on our Orchestra Website.  All money and forms must be turned in no later than September 16.  Each advertisement purchased also includes a complimentary listing on our orchestra website and weekly update, and will be featured in PowerPoint format before each major concert.  Please contact Mrs. Mour at smour@aisd.net if you are interested in purchasing an ad space.

5. ORCH BOOSTER CLUB LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS

The Orchestra Booster Club is looking for new members for general membership and to fill leadership positions for the 2022-2023 school year. The Booster club members work together to put on events for our orchestra students. Please contact Dr. Chapman at kchapman@aisd.net if you are interested in helping.
